Sapporo Asahigaoka Senior High School is the first in Sapporo to implement an academic advancement-focused credit-based curriculum, offering two departments: General Education and Data Science. The school’s guiding principle, “Conquering This Slope,” symbolizes the determination to overcome challenges and strive toward new horizons. This phrase serves as a personal creed for students, encouraging them to dedicate themselves to their studies with the goal of advancing to higher education.
The term “Guiding Principle” was chosen to act as a compass in daily life and a spiritual pillar throughout one’s journey, intentionally avoiding the term “school motto” to prevent implications of imposed directives. The “slope” metaphor encapsulates the school’s educational goals:
pursuit of truth, initiative and proactivity, and self-realization. It also abstractly represents the ideals embodied in the school’s badge colors: hope, creativity and development, and glory.
Educational Goals
The school aims to develop scientifically literate individuals who will lead the next generation.
This includes cultivating human resources in mathematical data science through Inquiry-Based Learning (IBL) that integrates data science education with various subjects. Objectives include enhancing cognitive and communication skills, nurturing international-minded learners with scientific literacy, and establishing a hub for advanced science and mathematics education in collaboration with local elementary, junior high, and SSH schools.
