Through guided research and practical activities, participants will investigate how women have contributed to Australia’s security, resilience, and national identity across more than a century.
The 30 selected students will work with the Gadget Girlz team to develop digital storytelling skills, create professional research outputs, and contribute to a national digital legacy that will be shared with schools, RSLs, councils, and the public. This is a chance to take part in meaningful commemorative work, learn from inspiring female role models, and help preserve stories that deserve to be remembered.
This project is your chance to uncover the stories of Australian women whose courage shaped our nation. From the nurses of Gallipoli to the women leading Defence and space today. You will help bring their stories to life and make sure they are recognised for their dedication and determination.
Students will need to:
- Research one Australian woman from ANZAC history, later conflicts, Defence, leadership, or the modern space domain
- Attend an in person workshop in the Hawkesbury, where you’ll learn digital storytelling, media, and research skills
- Work with the Gadget Girlz team to create a polished digital profile, podcast segment, or short documentary contribution
- Complete your research to a high standard, using reliable sources and guidance from mentors
- Share your reflections and insights, helping build a national digital legacy
- Present your work to your school or local community, contributing to Australia’s commemorative story
- Commit to the project timeline, including online check ins and submission deadlines
